Coach's Game Recaps

U9 vs Green White

11/15/2011, 11:39am (CST)
By Adam Levy

Despite the division title already locked up the boys had perhaps their best passing game of the season. Boys made passes and looked to get the ball back by moving to open space. The boys did a great job of playing the way they faced (good, simple passses) and had well over 5 support passes!! At halftime we spoke about making sure to look up before passing the ball backwards (making sure no defender is there) & trying to get a goal from a cross. Though we had some really good through balls, we failed to get a good cross in & at times looked to shoot when we could have made 1 more pass that led to an easy goal.

During the winter we will work on taking advantage of those 2 on 1s and crossing away from the goalie.

Great Fall season, Division Champions!!

Go Blue!! Have a great holiday break

U9 Blue Boys vs Cary

Playing Cary for the second time in two weeks the boys did an excellent job improving off a so/so played victory in game 1. Even though the score was similar to the week prior, the passing and movement was visually improved and visualy impressive!! The boys continued to make some killer through balls and even had an excellent give and go! Vincent, like he has down all year, gave us a much needed early goal by pressuring the ball & unleashed a great laces shot to the upper corner. Our defense became over aggressive and we gave up a breakaway and some shots on goal. In the second half our defense did a great job of dropping behind the ball and into their own space (not overlapping with another defenders space). Cameron and Jake played an awesome give and go a long the sideline, something we have been working on lately. Some good laces shots by the Wings in the second half led to additional goals. The continued effort to pass and cross was very pleasing.

Players of the Game: Vincent started the game with a great goal and finished it off by making 2 very nice diving saves in his first goalie appearance of the year (A Shutout!!). Cameron had some very nice inside outside dribbling to go a long with his great give and go. Tyler was a bit overaggresive early, but settled down and controlled the ball before looking up to complete passes. He broke up play after play on defense and had some perfect crosses from the right side. Christian had an excellent 2nd half, breaking up play after play on defense & nearly scoring 2 goals late. The best part of his play however was his defense; right in front of his proud, smiling coach, Christian forced attackers on back to back plays towards the close sideline, eventually forcing them to dribble out of bounds (just as we had worked on way back in week 1 / preseason)!!

This week in practice we will work on passing and moving & crossing (as many of our crosses went out of bounce by the near post).

Go Wings!!! 2011 Fall Division Champions
