This weekend we played good soccer on Saturday and used many of our skills to defeat GLSA 5-2. The real story was that after the first 20 minutes we played 5 passes in order to shoot to the goal. Passing to team mates, dribbling around players and great desire to keep runing after the ball was played were our keys to the game. Some great crosses in front of the goal almost had us score 3 more. Great Effort.
Sunday against CLForce was a different game and we were not playing as a team. Too much individual play and not enough team play made it difficult all day. The end result was a 1-1 tie. Some great goalkeeping wih point blank saves by David, kept us from falling behind. We have to remember to play the ball faster at our feet or the other team will be there to challenge and make passing difficult. Let's keep focused on how we play and move the ball outside to space and not across the front of the goal. Matthew and Dean on the attack were a good combination and had some great chances at goals. Hayden played well on the right side and got around their defender to lay the ball forward.
After a 45 minute delay on Saturday we had a pretty good game and gave the Celtic a game. We came away with a 3-2 loss but had some glimmer of playing as a team. Some good communication between Dean and David holding down the defense and positioning some of the midfield. We need to use our dribbling skills more to get around the opposing player and move forward to the goal.
Sunday morning was cold and again we had half the team arrive late for warm-up against Evanston. We finally cam alive in the second half and played some better soccer. Try to remember that after you play the ball with a pass, or a shot, or they take the ball away from you, you move again fast! We can't just watch from where you played the ball.
Here's a video on change of direction -watch it and practice it at home.
