Quite an exciting game today. The first half was pretty evenly matched and our defensive organization was pretty good. We had a nice first half goal off a cross and a nice finish by Ethan. We were down 2-1 at halftime.
In the second half, the game turned into a high scoring affair. I would have liked to see more defensive pressure in our box as we continually gave the Fire too much time to shoot on goal. We also didn't execute well defensively in pressure-cover situations. We'd always like to see one player pressuring the ball and containing the opponent and another player providing cover to protect our goal. Despite our defensive woes, our attacking game caught on fire. We had very nice goals in the second half from Sam R (2), Pearce, and Henry.
Despite the big momentum swing in our favor at the end of the game, the final whistle blew just before we could score the equalizing goal.
Definitely saw some encouraging teamwork today and we had some very strong individual performances today.
Final score: Wings 5 - Fire Jrs 6
Players of the Game
Peter R had a great first half as goalie and he did a really nice job of connecting passes when playing outside midfield in the second half. Sam R also had a great performance today. He did a great job of anticipating the play off the ball and putting himself into good attacking positions. Additionally, he provided two very nice goals in the second half.
Nice job guys!
Overall this spring- we've had three very competitive games against some good teams. Nothing to hang out heads about...we're almost over the hump. I'm quite pleased with our effort and the quality of soccer we demonstrated thus far.
The U10 White team continued to show their competitive spirit today with another strong effort this Spring again the Trevians. The wind played quite a big factor in the game today. Unfortunately, we had to take on the challenge of going against the wind in the second half today. Overall, our tactical shape was pretty good today despite our lack of energy. This helped us to be competitive throughout the game today. The first half was pretty evenly balanced and came to a c\lose at a 2-2 tie. Wings goals in the first half were contributed by Sam and Pearce.
Despite the wind, our guys gave their best effort today in the second half. The Trevians jumped out in front by quickly scoring 2 goals. Despite that, we were able to get back into the game on a nice goal from Will Ha. off a cross to the right side. The momentum quickly shifted in our favor, but atlas, time ran out before we could find the equalizing goal.
I am quite pleased with our effort, organization, and competitiveness after the first two games of the season.
Strong goal keeping efforts today were provided by Thomas L and Billy S.
Final Score: Wings 3 – Trevians SC 4
Player of the Game
While contributing a good first half in the back and another strong half at center midfield, Miles C is the player of the game today. Miles was able to provide a lot of defensive pressure and he did a nice job of distributing the ball wide to our wingers. Nice job today Miles!
