Coach's Game Recaps

Spring Game 2: Wilmette Wings v. Spartan FC

Rematch!!

Today's game vs. Spartan FC gives us a great chance to make some adjustments from last week's 2-1 Loss.   We came out strong and ready to dish out some payback!  Our focus on the ball in the first half kept the Spartans out of our box and kept us on the attack.  Continued pressure on the goal put us in striking distance with a great strong cross from Charlie V. and a quick goal by Spencer.

Coming out of halftime we talked about being more precise with our passing in our attacking third and closing down the gaps in our defensive line.  Spartans came out strong in the second half putting some increasing pressure on our defense.  While we kept good pressure on their attackers, we unfortunately gave up a couple scores off of Corner Kicks.  Our offense stalled a little bit in the second half, and we walked away with another 2-1 loss.

Players of the Game:

Top marks today go to Spencer O. and Charlie V. for there excellent combination play in the first half.  Charlie also showed great hustle throughout the entire game and Spencer continued to crash the goal to try and create scoring opportunities.  Great Job guys!

Spring Game 1: Wilmette Wings v. Spartan FC

First Spring Game...

Welcome to the Spring Season, where the match can be as unpredictable as the weather!  We had an excellent match-up today with Spartan FC to start off the outdoor season.  We have been working hard all winter in Indoor and here is where we can showcase how we have improved.

Today we did just that putting on some nice moves on the field moving the ball around and working on possession.  In the first half, we put up quite a few attacks on the opposing goal.  Some nice footwork from Danny O. put the Wings on top going into halftime.

During half time, we talked about working to put more shots on goal when we have an opportunity.  In the second half we tried to focus on finishing in our attacking third of the field.  We got several chances to put the ball in the net, but unfortunately, we were unable to put any more in.  However, Spartan was able to place two balls on goal, despite the best efforts of our defense and Goalkeeper Josh A.

Overall, I thought that this was a well played game and I was proud of the way we exhibited some of the things we learned working in Indoor.  Great Job Wings and get ready for the rematch next Sunday!

Players of the Game:

Great Job to Danny O.  on his solitary score for the Wings today.  Danny's excellent footwork put us onto several more goal scoring opportunities as well.  Nice work Danny!

I also wanted to highlight the play of Liam D. Liam's great supporting play helped us recharge our offensive plays down the sideline.  By being in terriffic position and communicating with his teammates, Liam started off several of our scoring opportunities.  Keep it up Liam!
