The u13 premier boys played a close game against the Chicago Fire Juniors on Saturday morning. The Fire Juniors started the better of the two teams going close on a number of occasions with their attacking corners troubling the Wings defense. We made a few silly errors like trying to clear the ball with the top of our foot rather than use the inside of the foot (greater surface area and safer especially in wet conditions) that lead to some of the corners that we conceded. We weren't hugely desperate to get to the corner first which resulted in Fire Juniors having a number of free headers. Luckily we were only 1-0 down at half time. The second half was much stronger from the Wings which saw Matthew S dominating the midfield as he spread the ball wide from the centre of the park which allowed us to attack from wide with better effect. The Wings worked hard and scored twice from two set plays - a corner and a free kick to take the game 2-1. Michael defended well throughout the game and kept the Fire at bay with some good, strong tackles and interceptions. It was an exciting and close game. It was fantastic to see all 15 players at the game - a real squad victory.

The u13 premier boys took to the field on Saturday to play against their pre season rivals Grayslake Galaxy. The Wings were off to an absolute flyer with Jason Lee scoring directly from the kick off at the start of the game. It was an unbelievable strike really. Luke Nelson played a strong game playing as a right wing back - winning tackles, making some nice passes and getting forward at the right times. The Wings scored again before half time to take a 2-0 lead into the break. Galaxy hit back in the second half before the Wings put the game beyond doubt with a well converted penalty. It was a slick and slippery game but the Wings did well to try and play good soccer. There were stages where we connected some good passes that allowed us to move the ball wide and attack quickly which was nice to see.
