Wilmette Wings Soccer Club

Game one is in the books.  It was definitely a chance to shake the cobwebs off.  The first half was a process of trial and error as we readjusted to play outdoors.  Our shape was very good but our passes and decision making was not as sharp as we would have liked.  Too many of our passes were either too soft or too close.  Our goal for the first half was to get 5 crosses into the penalty area.  We didn't quite reach that number but on the few occasions we did get the ball in the area we were dangerous. 

The second half was much better.  Our passing was much more crisp.  We spaced out on offense and were able to move the ball over distance.  This allowed us to stretch the defense of Elmwood and find gaps for us to attack and strike qaulity shots on goal.  We constantly applied pressure thanks to the play of our outside backs who continually shifted and pushed up to get involved in the attack.  Our ability to move the ball allowed us to manufacture 3 goals as we captured our first win 4-0. 

This week in practice we will look to run some pattern play to help striking over distance and crossing.
