The Wilmette Wings Soccer Club (WWSC) is a non-profit, community-based organization, committed to the advancement of youth soccer in the Chicagoland and Northshore area. The club is sustained by a dynamic group of paid coaches and parent volunteers that fill such roles as board members, team managers, event planners and fundraisers.
The purpose of the WWSC is to provide an environment where young athletes can engage in healthy soccer competition and, in doing so, can grow and develop into skilled players who love the game of soccer and respect the value of teamwork.
The Wilmette Wings Soccer Club is a competitive travel soccer club that was founded and fielded its first team of U9 Boys in the fall of 1995. The mission of the Wings is to provide the opportunity for children to play, learn, develop, and compete at the highest levels, while instilling a sense of pride for the Wilmette Community.
Each year the Wilmette Wings S.C. produces players that represent the Wings at high school soccer programs such as New Trier, Loyola Academy, Glenbrook North & South, Niles West & North, and Lake Forest Academy. Many Wings have gone on to compete at the NCAA collegiate level, and some have been named All-American soccer players.
Wilmette Wings S.C. has become the pride and joy of the Wilmette Community and the Wings has grown into a club that fields 28 - 32 travel soccer teams per year. Players compete at the age levels of U8-U14, and the Wings have an annual membership base of 390-420 players. Over 90% of the players are from the village of Wilmette, but the club has players from the Chicagoland area and other neighboring suburbs in the northshore.
Many of the Wilmette Wings S.C. players come from Coach Abe's Mini-Soccer Classes & Camps within the Wilmette Park District, and many are former players from the Wilmette Park District recreational soccer league.
The philosophy of the Wilmette Wings Soccer Club is to develop children into skillful team players who love the game of soccer. Through the game of soccer the Wilmette Wings Soccer Club hopes to instill within all of its players/members the values of commitment, hard work, persistence, team work, integrity, a sense of community, and the desire to strive for excellence in his/her effort.
The Wings takes a developmental approach towards teaching the game of soccer. The curriculum is designed to provide the appropriate level of competition and tactics for each team's age and ability level. The club provides a professional coaching environment that emphasizes the mastery of the fundamentals and promotes attacking soccer in a fun-filled but organized, structured, and disciplined environment.
The Wilmette Wings Soccer Club acknowledges that other sports, social, religious, and educational experiences are important to successfully developing a child into a well rounded individual and into a solid citizen. The Wilmette Wings encourages children to participate in these other activities but expects all of its players/members to honor his/her commitment to the club by attending practices, games, tournaments, and other Wilmette Wings S.C. events.
