Frequently Asked Questions

frequently asked questions

At the tryout sessions, Wings representatives are on hand to answer most of the questions that players/parents have regarding tryouts and the Wings organization. Below are some of the more frequently asked questions with answers. Please read them over and if you still have an unanswered question that cannot wait until tryouts, you may do two things. One, put your question in writing with your registration form and our tryout coordinator will handle it. Two, you may send an email to info@wilmettewings.com and a reply should come your way in a few days. Thank you for your interest in the Wilmette Wings and good luck at tryouts!

Frequently Asked Questions regarding tryouts:

Q: I don't live in Wilmette, can I still play for the Wings?

A: Yes. The Wings can accept players from any town.

Q: I have submitted my registration, what happens next?

A: If you are not a current Wings player, you will receive a tryout number in the mail with instructions. All current Wings players should receive tryouts numbers from their managers. If you registered toward the end of the registration deadline, your tryout number will be available at the field.

Q: What should my son/daughter wear/bring to tryouts?

A: All players must wear shin guards and soccer shoes are recommended. A water bottle labeled with players name is also a good idea. We conduct tryouts in most weather so dress your son/daughter accordingly. Don't forget to pin on your tryout number!

Q: My son/daughter has a conflict with the tryout schedule, what should we do?

A: We ask that all players make adjustments to their schedules so that they can attend our once-a-year tryouts. We conduct tryouts during our spring soccer season and do not have the time or field space to hold makeup sessions.

To be properly evaluated, it is recommended by the Wings that you attend all tryout sessions for your age group. If it is not possible for you to attend all or any of the tryouts scheduled for your age group, it is best that you send in your registration form and include a written explanation of your situation. Our tryout coordinator will respond.

Q: How do I know that my son/daughter is ready for travel soccer?

A: If you son/daughter has enjoyed Park District or AYSO soccer and shows the desire and ability to play soccer through the fall, winter and spring he/she may be a good fit for a travel program. Please read in our brochure and on our website about the soccer and financial commitments required of every player and family. New players come into our program every year and if your son/daughter does not make a team or decides not to tryout this year, encourage them to continue in the Park District and AYSO programs and consider trying out again in the future.

Q: How many teams does the Wings field? How many players are offered positions?

A: The number of teams fielded is dependent upon the number of qualified players that attend tryouts as well as the number of players that accept their position and register to play with the Wings.

The number of players on a team varies by age group.

Q: How do I find out if my son/daughter made a team?

A: At the conclusion of tryouts, you will be informed of how and when the rosters will be posted. Usually U9 rosters are posted within a week of the last day of tryouts. U10 and up rosters are posted in early June. Posting is made on our website and is listed by tryout number, so please remember your number.
